Welcome to Kudo Image Browser, the new way to organize your image files. Image Browser is an image catalog. Just as you consult an office supply catalog for desk calendars, legal pads or pens, consult your Image Browser catalog for your logos, clip art, illustrations, QuickTimeｪ movies and Kodak Photo CDｪ pictures.
Image Browser catalogs your image files using thumbnails. Think of a thumbnail as a miniature photo of your image file. It looks like your file, but itﾕs a replica that takes up very little memory. Image Browser uses the thumbnail in its catalog and leaves your image file, untouched, in its original form and location. With these compact thumbnails, Image Browser catalogs your image files in a convenient, accessible way.
The thumbnails provide a visual reference for each image file. Image Browser adds additional information, such as the original fileﾕs name, location, size and file type, to complete the catalog.
Why Use Image Browser
You have hundreds of clip art, logos and other graphic image files on your computer, all created using different applications. Unfortunately, to look through your images, you must find and open each file.
With Image Browser, you can:
･ Zoom through the catalog to locate the fileﾕs thumbnail.
･ Reference the fileﾕs location, size and format.
･ Preview the full-sized image in a floating window.
･ Place the file into another document.

You want to find a graphic file so you search, open a file, close it. Search, open another file, close it. And on and on. Thatﾕs the old way to find and place images.
As a graphic design professional, you work diligently on time sensitive layout projects. The ongoing struggle between deadline and creativity forces you to produce high quality material under pressure.
You have hundreds, or even thousands, of images created for projects or collected from commercial clip art sources. You may subscribe to services that provide images monthly, stored by the hundreds, on CDs.
You have a photograph or piece of artwork in mind that would fit perfectly in your new layout. The question is: ﾒWhere did I see that image?ﾓ. While you have seen it a hundred times, can you find it now? Previewing each image file by opening it with the appropriate application takes time. Would it be faster to re-create the image or use another that you can find that is "close enough"?
Kudo Image Browser is a time-saving tool designed to allow more opportunity for originality and design because less time is spent searching for images. It scans disks and folders for image files and creates a visual mixed-media catalog that you can use to locate artwork for your design projects.
You need the image of a sunset for your current project. Image Browser presents you with thumbnails of all your image files. Now you can see exactly what the image in each file looks like. Using the Riffle Control, you quickly zoom through the catalog until you see the one you want. The search has become as simple as riffling the pages of a photograph album.
Once you find an image that will work, you preview it with a simple menu selection. When you are satisfied with the selection, you simply drag and place the image directly into your PageMaker or QuarkXPress document (support for other applications is being added all the time).
Selecting artwork from a catalog has become a visual search. With Kudo Image Browser, you quickly scan, preview and select mixed-media images. Your attention can now be focused on content and creative tasks, rather than wasting time locating the right image file.
--------------Quick Start--------------
Please refer to ﾒKudoｨ Trial Version ReadMe" for installation instructions. After you have installed Kudo Image Browser on your hard disk, you can immediately create an image catalog and start using it! The following steps lead you through some of the major features.
1. Drag a folder or disk to the Image Browser icon. Image Browser automatically opens an empty catalog, prompts you to name it, then scans any image files in the folder or disk into the catalog. At the completion of the scan, you have an open catalog containing thumbnails of all image files found on that disk. The file name and file format are displayed beneath each thumbnail. Notice that for this Trial Copy, you can create catalogs with up to 30 thumbnails.
2. Click on a thumbnail to select it. Pull down the Image menu and select Preview to see the image in a full-sized window. Click the close box to close the preview window.
3. With the thumbnail still selected, pull down the Image menu and select Reveal Original. The Finder will then locate and reveal the folder or disk containing the selected image file. Click on the Image Browser window to return to Image Browser.
4. Next, click on the List View button. The list view presents thumbnails and file information in two vertical columns. The Gallery View button will return you to the gallery view; the grid style layout that shows more thumbnails but less information.

5. Click the Find button to open the selection criteria dialog box. This will allow you to locate thumbnails within the catalog that have specific characteristics. Type in part of a file name in the box to the right (Figure 2 below). Click the Find button to search the catalog for all thumbnails that meet the specified characteristic. Image Browser will then display only those thumbnails. Click the Find button again and select ﾒEverythingﾓ in the first pull down menu to find and display all thumbnails in the catalog.

6. Position the mouse cursor over the Riffleｪ control (the double-headed arrow with tick marks) in the lower right hand corner of the catalog window. Click and hold the mouse button down over the Riffle control to zip through the contents of the catalog. Using the Riffle control is like pressing Play and Fast Forward or Reverse on a VCR to quickly move forward or backward while watching the frames flash by.

7. Finally, if you are using System 7 and Aldus PageMakerｪ, Quark XPressｪ or another supported application, open a document in that application and position its window so that it will be visible behind the Image Browser catalog window. Return to Image Browser, select a thumbnail and drag it into the document window. Image Browser finds the original image file and places it in that document.
